Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Mobile, Alabama

The third largest city in Alabama, Mobile is the cultural heart of the region. The city contains numerous fine arts centers and performances, and is home to a number of significant architectural sites. A city full of history, Mobile is full of attractions that make it a favorite for visitors and locals alike. The city’s easygoing attitude appeals to both those looking for a big city atmosphere and those preferring the calm of a rural region. All in all, Mobile is an excellent moving destination.

History:
In 1860, the last known ship to arrive America carrying slaves was abandoned by its captain near Mobile. Many of these slaves escaped and founded their own community on the banks of the Mobile River; this area became known as Africatown. The members of this community preserved their African customs and language well into the 20th century. Farragut’s “West Gulf Blockading Squadron” blockaded the city, fortified and held by the Confederates, during the Civil War. The Battle of Mobile Bay, in August 1864, was won by the Union, but the city held out for another nine months. The city’s harbor was rebuild after the war. And in the years that followed, especially during World War II, shipbuilding became a major industry in Mobile. Workers moved into the city to looking for work on the waterfront, and many stayed once the war concluded. Founded in1963, the University of Southern Alabama, is one of Alabama's fastest growing universities. It's no wonder why Alabama moving companies are so busy.

Economy:
Benefiting from rich natural resources, a diversified work force and a prime location, Mobile, Alabama has enjoyed stable economic expansion throughout the 20th century. Medicine and research, aerospace, retail trade, construction and manufacturing are among Mobile's major businesses. The city's fastest-growing jobs are those in tourism and services. Austal USA, a joint venture between its parent company in Australia and Mobile's Bender Shipbuilding and Repair Company, brought more than 600 new jobs to the area in 2005 and 2006. Austal USA broke ground in early 2005 on a new shipbuilding facility created for design and construction of a new U.S. Navy ship. The 2004 opening of Carnival Cruise Lines' Mobile operation not only create direct jobs, but also created more jobs in the port area by spurring new restaurants, shops and tourist attractions.

Tourism:
Experience the Mobile Bay's unique history as you view artifacts detailing the city's beginnings to modern day heroes at one of the city’s innovative museums. Next, explore a mighty battleship or relive history aboard a World War II submarine. Enjoy nature at its finest and visit one of the city’s unmatched gardens. Blooming year-round, these gardens are a part of the city you don’t want to miss. Check out the latest scientific discoveries through hands-on exhibits, or kick back and enjoy an incredible IMAX film. Head over to Alligator Alley, where you will observe over a hundred alligators in their natural surroundings. Visitors to this unique alligator habitat can watch the alligators as they spend their days swimming, sunning and eating. Use the opportunity to learn a lot about alligators from the informative staff. When the sun goes down, a diverse collection of bars, nightclubs and live music venues provide entertainment for the masses. Listen to some jazz in a downtown courtyard or dance the night away in a live music hall. Mobile nightlife offers a unique glimpse into the heart and soul of this lively Southern city.
