Apartments and Rentals in New York, New York
Those moving to New York are certainly not relocating to a boring city. When making your big move to ‘the City that Never Sleeps’ you will discover numerous apartments, rental homes or roommate shares throughout the city and its boroughs. Whatever you are searching for we are sure you will find it in NYC.

History: The first European settlement in present-day New York began in September 1609 when English explorer Henry Hudson sailed into the area on the “Half Moon” a Dutch East India Company ship. After a short occupation by the British from 1776 to 1783, New York welcomed the first President of the United States at his inauguration on 30th April 1789 in the Federal Hall. New York served briefly as Capital of the U.S. until 1790 but the modern era boom began with the consolidation of five Boroughs in 1898. A massive building boom then followed the Great Depression years. Modern-day New York served as the main point of entry for many immigrant families arriving to settle and seek a better life for themselves. After World War 2 the City of New York began to witness a strong move away from its traditional industrial bases such as shipbuilding and garment manufacturing towards the service industries including tourism, finance, medicine, communications and law. The arrival of containerization in the ports of America spelled disaster for the traditional dockworkers in New York with the loss of many jobs in this sector. The 1980s heralded a re-emergence of Wall Street as New York recovered its title as the world’s financial capital.

Economy: New York’s economy outstrips that of many a nation around the globe due to its sheer size and influence. It certainly ranks number one in the U.S. and is passed only by Tokyo in Japan on a world scale. New York’s Stock Exchange is the world’s biggest stock market by market capitalization of listed entities. In terms of contribution, tourism, insurance, finance and banking, health care, real estate and law rate among the main players in the city economy. Journalism too has helped develop New York as a very important center for programming and mass media publishing. More recent entries to the economy have included the advertising sector, architecture and fashion but many more will no doubt come on board and help diversify New York’s economy and shield it from volatile future market conditions.

Tourism: The 5 Boroughs of New York double as home to some of the world’s most cherished landmarks and attractions. Although you are not restricted to these suggestions they do form a “must see” on most tourists’ itineraries. The heady-heights of the Empire State Building,Times Square and Central Park, attract, but do also include The Metropolitan Museum of Art on your tour schedule. New York City is a vibrant and dynamic place to be at any time of the year, whether by day or by night. They say that if you cannot find it in New York it has still to be invented. But why take our word for it, check out the City’s four other boroughs and you will be challenged by their own roster of “must-see” destinations. The choices are yours but make sure you have enough time to take it all in.

Colleges/Universities: New York – Interesting Facts:
  • On average, more than 26,000 people occupy each square mile in the City of New York.
  • Popular Central Park, located in the heart of New York City, covers a space bigger than the principality of Monaco.
  • At the last count New York City had more than 18,600 restaurants and eateries – so finding something to suit your appetite should not be too difficult.
  • Approximately 800,000 companies operate out of New York City.
  • About a quarter of the world’s gold bullion reserves are stored in the Federal Reserve Bank on Wall Street in vaults some 80 feet underground.
