Nearly the worst move I have ever had
I was told that there would be no hidden charges and that my move would cost me 33 cents a pound, which would include door to door service, wrapping of furniture, courteous care, etc. First of all, the movers showed up 12 hours late. Immediately, the foreman started talking about extra charges for walking up stairs in my home. When I told him that I had a contract for no hidden charges he argued with me. The movers used my bathrooms without asking permission. I am renting my home and had just cleaned it prior to the move. Then, they left a carpet behind that I had to move in my car. Upon arriving the following day at my apt, two hours late, they again told me that I needed to pay extra for the stairs. I told them that I had a contract with no extra charges. They threatened to leave the truck with my belongings on the street and go back to New York. They put brown sticky tape directly on my hardwood furniture which left residual brown goo on the oak wood. They did not unpack my 42 inch TV that they put in the box, which was very difficult for me to unpack. The foreman was mad at me for not allowing his man to use my bathroom where my cats were locked up. I told him I was afraid that they would escape. He told me I was rude. The first thing they did when they walked in my door was ask to use the restroom. It seems to me that they could have stopped at a rest area on the way up. I did. It was only a three-hour drive. After all that, they asked me for a tip. I would advise not using this moving company.

Response from Statewide Van lines
Dear Sir,
This customer moved end of May, one of the busiest times of the year and was informed there would be a slight delay for the pick up. The customer never mentioned, when i gave the original estimate, that there was stairs involved for the move. There were 3 flights up and down at the pick up and the delivery, and all customers must pay for these charges when there are stairs involved for the move. This is a legitimate charge for any mover. This customer also failed to tell us that we had to move her carpet. The service she had contracted for does not include "unpacking" her TV. The TV was boxed, and it is the customer’s responsibility to unpack such an item. My men have never been refused to use a bathroom before, but that is up to the customer to be gracious enough to offer it.
Sincerely,
Jim Alexander--statewide van lines
