Arkansas to Florida Move

Original estimate was made without sending someone out to take an inventory, resulting in the estimate being so far off. The final cost for this company was $3,300. I had budgeted about $3,500 based on estimates from several companies, all without sending anyone to due an inventory. Their truck broke down on the way to us to pick up our stuff, which happened to be a blessing in disguise since we were not entirely ready. Since the crew was being nice and working hard, I bought them lunch to keep them from just eating the junk food they brought with them, and I was not going to eat in front of them knowing that they were getting hungry as well. Once they got really close to the budget, I had them take off, leaving much of our stuff behind. We drove to Florida and beat the moving company by 2 days. When they arrived and started unloading we noticed several things that were broken, totaling about $600.00. They make your sign a waiver that if you have pressed wood, it is not coveraged under their insurance if it is broken. We had two pieces of furniture that were made of pressed wood that were broken. One was a media cabinet for DVDs and the other was a small curio cabinet. The curio cabinets (one of pressed wood and the other of solid oak) were both broken. The small curio had broken glass that had been removed and packed in cardboard for protection. The larger curio made of oak had a broken leg. They had tried to screw it back on and split the wood which they then wrapped with packing tape. We were charged extra to move the curio cabinets as well. The remaining $1200 was spent on a rental truck 6 weeks later and fuel that I drove myself with stuff not packed as well as what the movers carried and I arrived in less time and with nothing broken. Lesson learned, just because they are professional movers does not mean that they can do a better job that you can do yourself.
